In this time of great anxiety, we seek to live as God’s people through our daily lives. We pray for God to act, hoping to see Him working through us.
A few weeks ago, Peachtree had the opportunity to see an example of God’s signs and wonders in the rescue of eighteen Christians from Afghanistan. In the span of twenty four hours, the Spirit inspired us to act and then energized our efforts through His power. As I have thought about this amazing event, it is clear to me that this rescue occurred only because of the power of the Spirit working in and through us. It is also clear to me that it happened in and through relationships, many of which had begun years ago without a thought that they would one day be used by God to show His signs and wonders in order to save the lives of people we had never met. God took those normal human interactions and wove them together at just the right moment to answer prayers, rescue families, and inspire us all.
It is this same Spirit that the Apostle Paul describes in his letter to the Romans. Paul had developed a powerful network of relationships among both Jews and Gentiles, rich and poor, slave and free. God used all those relationships to demonstrate signs and wonders wherever Paul traveled. In the greatest wonder of all, God used those relationships to give us Paul’s letters. As I read about what God accomplished through Paul’s relationships and see what He has done through ours, I wonder what He might be weaving together today. How might God use our relationships in the hours ahead for His glory tomorrow? What conversations might we be having now that will bear fruit far into the future? Let us live in the belief that though our relationships today may seem mundane, they could actually become eternally significant in the future.
