I love to read. Finding myself absorbed in a good novel (ask me about my latest read!) brings respite in my weariness. I am fascinated by authors who compel us to read further with their brilliant prose, drawing us to dig deeper, imagine higher, remember more diligently, and reflect more deeply.
I also like to write. While I definitely don’t see myself as an accomplished writer, I do enjoy the discipline and challenge of making words dance, and sing, and tell a story. I even authored a book, telling the lessons God showed me during a painful and heart-wrenching time in my life.
So it is no secret that I like words. And sentences. And paragraphs. And chapters. And novels. But sometimes, there is greater impact in a few short words, a simple summary statement rather than a long, lofty tome.
Read again the words from Isaiah 26. Right now I could use some of that “perfect peace” of which Isaiah speaks. There is no secret to receiving it. Isaiah, in one simple sentence, reminds us that it is given to those “whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Simple words. Profound truth.
I want to keep my mind steadfast. I want to trust in God. I want to celebrate and hold on to the truth that “the Lord himself is the rock eternal.” May I remember and remind myself over and over today of this truth. Because by doing that, my mind will be steadfast. And I can know and experience and drink deeply from the perfect peace God gives.
