The German Lutheran theologian Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt once said, “Either Christ’s coming has meaning for us now, or else it means nothing all.” I am struck that Blumhardt did not mince words. Jesus, our Prince of Peace, the Light of the World, either means something to us or nothing at all.
How do we know if His coming has meaning for us now? Allegiance. Allegiance will tell us if Christ’s coming has meaning for us now because allegiance reveals our values and way of life. Those who have placed their allegiance in Christ, first and foremost, seek to take up their cross daily. They are the ones who love God and neighbor. And they are the ones who go out and make disciples of all nations.
You see, all who place their allegiance in Christ have their lives turned upside down. They place their value and worth in him. As time goes on, they become more and more selfless. Their main focus is more on the other and less on themselves. And they stop at nothing to be with the One coming. They seek to know Him better and desire to give Him more of their lives.
So you must ask yourself, does Christ’s coming have meaning for me or not at all?
