Have you ever heard the saying, “When it rains, it pours?” Just when we think our stress is at maximum capacity or we have reached our limit as we trudge through challenging situations, yet another blow comes along. We find ourselves frustrated and weighed down, questioning what to do next.
In my personal experience, my knee-jerk reaction during these seasons of life is to grasp harder for control. I feel myself grip tightly to the circumstance and tell the Lord, “It’s ok. I got this one.” After days, weeks, or even months of relying on my own strength, I always end up in the same place. I find myself utterly depleted and completely overwhelmed. I come before the Lord, weak and weary, looking for rescue.
In spite of this pattern, the Lord is always there. He is by my side, bringing me beside still waters, restoring my soul. I find His peace in His word. I find His presence in prayer. I find His comfort through the love and encouragement of other believers. As I open my hands and release control, I feel the weight of life’s burdens lessen.
If you find yourself in a season of sunny days, praise the Lord! Write down these joyful times as a reminder of God’s goodness and faithfulness. If you find yourself trapped in the middle of a storm, I pray that you will open your hands and release control. Cling to the Lord and know that He stands with you in the midst of this stormy trial.
