See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.
James 5:7
During 2026, Peachtree Church is inviting everyone into Cultivate, a churchwide discipleship plan centered on the fruit of the Spirit and the kind of life God longs to grow in us. Throughout the year, we’ll explore how love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control take shape in everyday life through the Spirit’s work. Cultivate brings together worship, Scripture, group guides, and meaningful practices designed to meet you where you are and support growth in ways that fit your season. These twice-weekly devotionals are one way to stay connected, offering reflection and grounding for daily life with God. Whether you engage in many ways or just one, you’re invited to be part of this shared journey of becoming more rooted in who God has created and called you to be.
Devotional
Waiting is hard, especially when life feels uncertain. I remember waiting to find out whether I was going to be accepted into graduate school. It felt like God was calling me to it, but once the application went out, all I got back was radio silence.
That kind of waiting can be exhausting. We want clarity. We want movement. We want answers. Instead, we often find ourselves stuck in seasons where nothing seems to be happening.
James compares patience to a farmer waiting for harvest. Farmers cannot rush growth. They prepare the soil, plant the seed, and trust that something is happening beneath the surface long before they can see results. Their patience is not passive. It is hopeful endurance.
That is often how God works in our lives too.
Many of us want immediate transformation, immediate healing, or immediate direction. But spiritual growth rarely happens overnight. God often does his deepest work slowly, quietly, and over time. In seasons of waiting, it can feel like nothing is changing, but beneath the surface, roots are growing.
I did end up going to graduate school, and I am deeply grateful for where God led me. But looking back, I can see that the waiting itself shaped me just as much as the answer did. That season formed perseverance in me. It taught me how to trust God when certainty was unavailable.
James reminds believers to “stand firm” because the Lord is near. Patience is not pretending everything is easy. Patience is remaining rooted in hope while we wait for God to move in his timing.
Maybe you are in a season right now where answers feel delayed or growth feels slow. Do not mistake silence for absence. God is often working beneath the surface long before we can see the harvest.
For Reflection
- Where in your life are you struggling to wait patiently?
- What might God be growing beneath the surface in this season?
Prayer
Lord, help me persevere when waiting feels long and discouraging. Teach me to trust that You are still working even when I cannot yet see the outcome. Keep me rooted in hope as I wait on You. Amen.
