What is Honour Academy Like?

We choose an area of study we think will make us better able to live the kind of life Jesus wants for us. We get together with people who feel the same way we do. Courses will include table-based discussions and focus on practical application.

Why is Honour Academy Important?

Those of us who want to grow in our faith don’t always know what steps to take. And though we attend church on Sunday, it can feel like a meaningful and compelling Christian life is just beyond our grasp.

That’s why we created Honour Academy. It features targeted topic-based courses designed for groups of people who want to grow in faith, connect more deeply with others, and become more like Jesus. We offer expert-led classes on how to understand the Bible, strengthen your relationship with God, practice your faith in daily life, and better engage with the world.

The Very Early Church: Selections from Acts and Galatians

Janie Jeter

Sundays, January 11, 18, and 25
6–7 pm

With the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, the church was “born!” As the early believers shared the good news of Jesus, there were questions—how to live as this new community that was being formed, who would be included in this new people of God and on what grounds, how to understand all that had provided identity as God’s people in the past. We will read from Luke’s accounts in the book of Acts and the words of Paul to the Galatian churches as we discover the significance of how the very early church was led in discerning who it was—and continues to be.

Rev. Dr. Richard Kannwischer

Dr. Richard Kannwischer is the pastor of Peachtree Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and holds a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary. For more than twenty-five years, he has been recognized as a gifted communicator whose greatest passion is helping people understand how the story of God speaks with clarity, depth, and relevance to their everyday lives. Known for making complex theological truths both accessible and engaging, he brings insight and warmth to the pulpit, the page, and every conversation.

His writing and preaching combine theological depth with the art of storytelling, drawing people into a faith that is multifaceted, practical, and life-giving. With creativity and insight, he reveals the treasures of Christian faith that lie just below the surface. The result is an invitation to experience faith not as a distant idea, but as a living, breathing reality—one that reshapes the heart, renews the mind, and awakens delight in God’s presence.

Richard is married to Kelly, the President of Novum Partners and a certified executive coach. Together they are the proud parents of two adult children. When he’s not preaching or writing, he enjoys reading, playing golf, and sharing a good meal with friends.

Bryan Benitez

Bryan Benitez serves as the Director of Online Worship at Peachtree Church. His work sits at the intersection of creativity, storytelling, and helping people meet God in the everyday. Before stepping into this role, Bryan spent years shaping worship services and leading Peachtree’s production teams with a heart for clarity, connection, and care.

A big part of Bryan’s faith was formed on mission trips to Africa, India, Germany, and Nicaragua—places where he saw the Holy Spirit moving in quiet, powerful ways through prayer, community, and ordinary people saying “yes” to God. Those moments continue to shape how he sees spiritual gifts today: not as something reserved for a few, but as God’s everyday way of building up His people.

Bryan loves creating spaces—online and in person—where people feel seen, encouraged, and invited into the work the Spirit is already doing. He enjoys filmmaking, fitness, and good conversations that point people toward Jesus.

Janie Jeter

Janie Jeter is a long-time member and elder at Peachtree. She has taught Adult Sunday School classes and, since 2010, has led a group of women in an in-depth study of Scripture. Having benefited from excellent Bible teaching, primarily at Peachtree, she is committed to encouraging other lay people to deeply engage with Scripture—listening carefully to what the text says, asking and learning what it means, and considering what difference it makes in our lives.

Janie holds undergraduate and law degrees from Emory University. She and her husband, Sheldon, have an adult son, Jeff.

Rev. Wes Nichols

Rev. Wes Nichols is the Pastor for Belong. In this role, he oversees Sunday Belong Communities, Young Professionals, and Alpha.

Wes grew up attending Peachtree with his family. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Georgia where he received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Affairs. Post-college, Wes returned to Peachtree to work in Student Ministry. After receiving his Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary, he became a pastor at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas. In 2023, Wes returned to Peachtree for the second time as the Pastor for Belong.

He and his wife Caroline live in Brookhaven. In their spare time, they love trying fun restaurants, being outside, and watching UGA football.

Dr. Milton Perry

Dr. Milton Perry is a native of Texas where he studied accounting at Texas A&M University before completing both his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Over Milton’s 40 years in ministry, he served many ministry roles that included serving as senior pastor of four different churches in Montana, Texas, and Georgia.

In 2004, Milton pursued his master’s degree in counseling psychology to further his desire to bring hope to hurting people.  Since that time, Milton has counseled hundreds of young people, married couples and individuals in their pursuit of personal peace and relationship reconciliation.

After retiring as a full-time pastor at his last church, Milton has worked as a licensed and private sector relationship therapist as well as a business professional.

Milton is married to the love of his life, Allison, and together they share seven amazing children and 3 grandchildren.  During his free time, Milton enjoys traveling, playing golf, spending time with family and most of all, investing in others.

Dr. Joe Skillen

The Rev. Dr. Joe Skillen is the new Teaching Pastor at Peachtree Church, re-joining the Peachtree team in June of 2025. For the past 20 years, Joe has enjoyed preaching and teaching in churches and local colleges about the Bible and the Christian life. Although Joe’s Doctor of Ministry degree from George Fox University focuses on Spiritual Formation and Leadership, he also continues to be interested in the Historical-Critical approach to studying the Bible, which he learned while attending Regent University for his master’s degree coursework. After years of being a Christian and a church worker, Joe still finds the Bible life-giving and seeks to help modern Christians map their own stories onto the unfolding story of God’s redemption.

In Joe’s free time, he likes to hang out with his wife, Ginger, and play hockey with his two kids, Avery (daughter) and Ezra (son). He also cherishes the opportunity to fundraise and share about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
