Devotional: November 19, 2025

During 2025, Peachtree Church is focusing on the Book of Psalms with a series called Dwell, through which we seek to deepen our conversation with God and open ourselves to hearing his response. The practice of praying three times each day will unite the voices of our hearts and souls as we seek the day when we will see the full realization of the Kingdom of God, promised in Revelation 21:3: “…Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.”

We will email devotionals twice weekly with Monday’s providing an overview of the Psalm as a whole, and Wednesday’s focused on that week’s Daily Dwell.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.

Psalm 136:1

Devotional

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever.”

This verse opens with a reminder we all need to hear: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.” Those words can feel natural when life is unfolding smoothly, when we can see God’s blessings clearly. But there are also times when it is not that easy to say—times when life feels complicated or when joy feels out of reach.

In those moments, this verse doesn’t ask us to force gratitude; it gently invites us to remember who God is. The Lord is good. His goodness isn’t dependent on how our day is going or what the future holds. It’s part of His character. We can trust God’s goodness even when we can’t see every detail of how it’s unfolding.

The psalmist anchors that truth with the phrase repeated throughout the psalm: “His love endures forever.” The word “endures” reminds us that God’s love doesn’t weaken or depend on our circumstances. It lasts. It carries us. It remains constant in every season of life. To give thanks, then, is less about how we feel in the moment and more about where we choose to place our trust. Gratitude becomes a quiet act of confidence in the unchanging goodness of God.

So today, receive this verse as an invitation. Let it remind you that God’s goodness hasn’t gone anywhere. His love is not fragile, and it will meet you right where you are. You don’t have to feel grateful to be grateful; you simply can remember that the One who loves you has never stopped being good.
