During 2025, Peachtree Church is focusing on the Book of Psalms with a series called Dwell, through which we seek to deepen our conversation with God and open ourselves to hearing his response. The practice of praying three times each day will unite the voices of our hearts and souls as we seek the day when we will see the full realization of the Kingdom of God, promised in Revelation 21:3: “…Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.”
We will email devotionals twice weekly with Monday’s providing an overview of the Psalm as a whole, and Wednesday’s focused on that week’s Daily Dwell.
“Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”
Psalm 62:8
Devotional
There’s something deeply comforting about the rhythm of this verse. It begins with a call to trust, not just when life is steady, but at all times. Then comes a surprising command: pour out your hearts. That’s not stoic faith. That’s not pretending everything is fine. That’s raw, honest vulnerability with God.
There are very few people we feel safe enough to pour out our hearts to. It’s exposing. It stirs up questions: What will they think of me? Will they judge me? Will they pity me? Will they hold what I share in confidence? Will they still want to be close? That level of honesty is rare, and it takes courage.
Sometimes we assume trust means staying quiet, staying strong, pushing through. But this verse offers a better picture. Trust isn’t the absence of struggle; it’s bringing your struggle to our God who will hold it. And the reason we can do that is because God is our refuge.
Refuge is a rich word. It’s not an idea or a wish; it’s a place. It’s where you go when life feels too loud, too fast, too much. And Psalm 62 doesn’t just say that God provides a refuge; it says He is one.
There have been seasons in my life when I’ve clung to this verse: when the people I loved were hurting, when ministry felt heavy, when uncertainty seemed to color everything. I’ve poured out prayers through tears. I’ve whispered truths I could barely believe. I’ve said things to God I wouldn’t dare say to anyone else. And what I’ve found is this: He doesn’t flinch. He listens. He holds. And He keeps holding.
Maybe today, you’re carrying more than you’re saying out loud. Maybe your heart is full of things you don’t even have words for yet. Psalm 62:8 is permission that you don’t need to hold it all together. You can bring your fear, your weariness, your hopes, and your questions right to God. He will be your refuge.
For Reflection
- When was the last time you poured out your heart to God?
- Are there parts of your story you’ve been holding back, thinking they’re too messy or too raw to bring into prayer?
- What might it look like for you to see God as your refuge today?
Prayer
Lord, You are my safe place. You are steady when life is not, present when others are absent, gentle when the world feels harsh. Forgive me for the ways I’ve tried to carry everything on my own. Help me learn what it means to trust You with all of me, not just the polished parts. Thank You for being my refuge. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
