During 2025, Peachtree Church is focusing on the Book of Psalms with a series called Dwell, through which we seek to deepen our conversation with God and open ourselves to hearing his response. The practice of praying three times each day will unite the voices of our hearts and souls as we seek the day when we will see the full realization of the Kingdom of God, promised in Revelation 21:3: “…Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.”
We will email devotionals twice weekly with Monday’s providing an overview of the Psalm as a whole, and Wednesday’s focused on that week’s Daily Dwell.
Why do the nations conspire
and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth rise up
and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
“Let us break their chains
and throw off their shackles.”The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.
He rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
“I have installed my king
on Zion, my holy mountain.”I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:
He said to me, “You are my son;
Psalm 2:1-8
today I have become your father.
Ask me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
Devotional
Psalm 2 reminds us that acknowledging God as our King is not only good for us—it’s right. He is enthroned in heaven, sovereign and all-powerful, yet His response to our rebellion isn’t rejection. Instead, He calls Himself our Father and names us as His heirs.
In the middle of our hectic, distracted lives, it’s easy to forget that. If I’m honest, I don’t wake up every day thinking, “I am God’s son, His heir.” But when we begin to truly believe His promises and live as though they’re true, everything changes. It shapes the way we carry ourselves, the way we respond to challenges, and the way we treat others.
Following God as our King is the first step toward living within those promises. It may not always feel dramatic or immediate, but re-aligning your heart to His authority lifts the invisible weight we often carry from trying to rule our own lives.
Christ went to the cross so that we could walk in freedom—but that freedom begins with surrender. When we release our grip on control and give God His rightful place, we find peace, purpose, and the deep security that only His kingship can provide.
For Reflection
- What does it mean to live under the lordship of God? Why is that good?
- What is something you can surrender to God today?
Prayer
Holy Spirit, please fill me with your presence today and help me to live under your lordship. You are my King. Help your will to be my way. Amen.
